CX2: 27 Oct 2013
Harbor High School
All Hallow's Cross
Race Number and Chip
You're issued a single number and rfid chip for the entire series, so please bring them with you to each race. It turns out we lied about being able to mount the chips within the vent of your helmet. What worked in the lab didn't work in practice, so mount them on the exterior of the helmet, but not on the sides. This has been a public service announcement.
Canned Food Drive
We're running our annual canned food drive which benefits the Second Harvest Food Bank at CX2. SCCX will make a cash donation for every pound of food donated, and as a bonus, everyone donating food or money will be entered into a drawing for a Gizdich Ranch pie during the race.
Note that start times for Master Men A, Women, and Elite Men A/SS have been moved forward approx 30min from the standard schedule to accommodate the costume race.
Parking will be along La Fonda Ave and in the upper school lots. Start/Finish will be in the lower campus in the vicinity of the running track. Vendors/Team tents enter via the lower service road at the alongside the baseball diamond.
Race mechanical support is provided by The Bicycle Trip. The Trip will do repair and adjustments, but can't provide equipment, so bring your own spares.
Registration opens at 8 am on race day. There are no field limits or late fees. Online registration is available assuming the registration button at the top of the page hasn't disappeared. For the 2013 season, we've returned to a non-USAC sanctioned format, so no license is required. We now accept credit cards for race day reg and merchandise.
Ride what you brought. Most of our courses favor a cross bike, but to minimize barriers of entry to the sport, mountain bikes are allowed, particularly in the beginner categories.
Riders are issued one cloth number and a passive timing chip to be used for the entire series. The number is placed on the torso above the hip and the chip is placed on the helmet out of harm's way, ie, somewhere near the top, but not on the sides.
SCCX is run as a points series.
- Overall prizes are awarded at the last race of the series to the top three riders in each category.
- Day of race cash prizes are paid to the top three riders in the Men A, Women A, and Master Men A categories
Riders must be present at podium awards ceremonies to receive prizes
Though this is an unsanctioned event, categories generally follow the age-graded USAC format. Groups are divided by gender, age, and, depending on the size of the group, ability level:
Typically beginners to the sport. Also a good group for those getting back into it, but still in a state of training deficit.
Generally intermediate to advanced skillset. Also called the "Working Person's" category because the reality of life gets in the away of being competitive at the A level.
This is serious. Expect the fastest riders in the district to be in this group, and you never know who will show up. Thomas Frischknecht, Bart Brentjens, Tim Johnson. We're still waiting on Nys and Vos.
Race a subset of the main race loop. May do multiple laps depending on age and course distance.
